Caelan trudged through the front door of her and her brother’s house. She dumped her bag by the door and sighed. “Gabriel, I’m home!” she called.
“In the living room!” he called back to her. Caelan dragged her feet into the living room and chucked herself down on the sofa. A smile appeared on her brothers pink lips. He looked like he normally did when he came home from work; messy dark brown hair that stretched down to his neck, tired piercing blue eyes and a little bit of dirt smudged on his cheek.

“How was school little sis?” he asked gruffly.
“Fine, I guess. How was work?” Caelan said.
“Fixed up a motorbike and helped a folk with his car.”
Caelan grunted in response and spread out over the sofa, putting her legs over her brother’s lap.
“You got homework?” Gabriel asked, raising an eyebrow.
Caelan ignored him.
“Go do it” Gabriel huffed.
“I just had school!”
“Touché” Gabriel laughed.

Caelan picked up the remote for the TV and started flicking through the channels. Gabriel tried snatching the remote off of her but Caelan pulled it away from his grasp. They had a small tousle on the sofa until Caelan raised her hands in defence.
“OK! If you make beans on toast for dinner then you can choose the channel, deal?” Caelan said. Gabriel rolled his eyes but agreed anyway. Caelan glanced over at her fish bowl on the modern brown table. Dorito; her goldfish; was staring at her with a fishy smirk on his face. “What are you looking at?” she laughed. Dorito turned away from the glass and darted through the plastic seaweed in the bowl. Caelan turned away from him and grabbed her book that she kept under the sofa. The reason she kept it under the sofa is because that’s the first place she went after school and she didn’t feel like walking all the way to her bedroom bookshelf just to get a book. She was halfway through the book and it was about some girl falling for a vampire. “Some teen junk” Caelan thought. Gabriel sauntered into the room with two plates of beans on toast. “Thanks bro” Caelan smiled at him and chucked him the remote. Gabriel caught it with easiness and put some random movie on.

These were the moments that Caelan treasured the most; just slouching on the sofa with her brother, eating beans on toast and watching TV. When they finished their food and the film ended Caelan yawned widely and got too her feet. She grabbed the fish flakes off of the coffee table and sprinkled a pinch into Dorito’s round and shiny fish bowl. Caelan watched as he swam to surface and started consuming the flaky food one by one. Caelan was about to walk off to bed when Gabriel grabbed her arm.
“What’s wrong Cael?” Gabriel asked concerned.
“I don’t know what you mean...” Caelan said uneasily.
“Quite the cock and bull story, Cael. Tell me what’s wrong” Gabriel said, crossing his arms.
“Nothing’s wrong” Caelan said slowly, pulling her arm away.
Gabriel stared into Caelan’s eyes and frowned, “You’ve been acting stoic all night.”
Caelan huffed and stormed upstairs in a piss. “Nothing’s wrong!” she shouted down to Gabriel.
Gabriel sighed and put his head in his hands.

“Teens” he muttered. He glanced over at Caelan’s book and smirked, “Yup, definitely a teen thing.”
